KeePassXC for MAC
Free, open-source password manager that keeps your passwords in an encrypted file on your own Mac.
KeePassXC Overview
KeePassXC is a free, open-source password manager for Mac, Windows and Linux. It stores your passwords, passkeys, notes and two-factor codes in an encrypted database file that stays on your own device, not on a company's server, and it opens with one master password, a key file, a hardware key or Touch ID. KeePassXC is made by the KeePassXC Team and released under the GPL license, with no subscription, no account and no paid version.
Its database uses the KeePass KDBX format, so the same file also works with KeePass-compatible apps on iPhone and Android. On the Mac there are separate downloads for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and the current version needs macOS 12 or later.
Key Features
KeePassXC gives you the features of a commercial password manager while you keep full control of your data.
- Strong encryption: databases are encrypted with AES-256, ChaCha20 or Twofish, protected by the Argon2 key derivation function.
- Password generator: create strong passwords or passphrases with the rules you choose.
- Browser integration: fill in logins in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and other browsers with the KeePassXC-Browser extension.
- Passkeys: save and use passkeys for websites that support them.
- Two-factor codes: store TOTP secrets and generate one-time codes.
- Auto-Type: type usernames and passwords into any app with a shortcut.
- Quick unlock: unlock your database with Touch ID on supported Macs.
- Health check: find weak, reused and old passwords.
- Import and sync: import from 1Password, Bitwarden, KeePass and CSV files, and share entries between databases with KeeShare.
- SSH agent: load SSH keys from your database when you need them.

KeePassXC FAQ
Is KeePassXC free for Mac?
Yes. KeePassXC is free and open source, released under the GPL license. There is no subscription, no account and no paid version.
Where does KeePassXC store my passwords?
In an encrypted database file on your own Mac. Nothing is sent to a KeePassXC server. To use the same passwords on other devices, keep the file in a cloud folder you already use, such as iCloud Drive.
Does KeePassXC run on Apple Silicon Macs?
Yes. KeePassXC has separate Mac downloads for Apple Silicon and for Intel Macs, so it runs natively on both.
Which macOS version does KeePassXC need?
KeePassXC 2.7.12 needs macOS 12 or later. For macOS 11 and older, the KeePassXC team points to MacPorts.
Can I unlock KeePassXC with Touch ID?
Yes. After you open your database once with your master password, you can turn on quick unlock and use Touch ID on Macs that have it.
Does KeePassXC fill in passwords in my browser?
Yes. Install the KeePassXC-Browser extension for Safari, Chrome, Firefox or another supported browser, and turn on browser integration in KeePassXC's settings.
Can I use KeePassXC on my iPhone or Android phone?
KeePassXC itself is a desktop app, but its KDBX database works with KeePass-compatible apps on iPhone and Android, so you can open the same file there.
What happens if I forget my KeePassXC master password?
Your database cannot be opened without it. There is no reset or recovery, because only you hold the key. Keep a safe backup of your master password and key file.
Is KeePassXC safe to install on a Mac?
Yes, when you download it from the official website, keepassxc.org, which is where the download button on this page leads. KeePassXC is open source, and each download comes with a signature and checksum so you can check it.
Where does the KeePassXC download on keepassxc.FULLMAC.app come from?
The download button leads to KeePassXC's official Mac download page at https://keepassxc.org/download/#macos. keepassxc.FULLMAC.app does not change or repackage the installer.

ClearanceKitClearanceKit is a free, open-source tool that controls which programs on your Mac may touch your sensitive files. It uses Apple's Endpoint Security framework to watch file-system events such as opens, renames, deletions, copies and directory reads, and blocks any process that accesses a protected path without an explicit allow rule. It is aimed at developer machines, where an unsandboxed npm, pip or brew install script runs with your full permissions and could otherwise read folders such as ~/.ssh, cloud credentials or browser cookies.Security
MakLockMakLock is a lightweight menu bar app that protects your macOS applications with Touch ID, Apple Watch proximity or a backup password. When someone tries to open or switch to a protected app, MakLock blocks access with a full-screen blur overlay on all your monitors and asks for authentication. It watches for app switches as well as launches, so returning to an app that is already running also needs unlocking.Security
CloakerCloaker protects a file with a password in as few steps as possible. Drop a file onto the window, set a password and choose where to save the encrypted copy. To decrypt, drop the encrypted file on the window, enter the password and choose the output location. There is nothing to install on the Mac, because Cloaker comes as a single app bundle. Be careful with your password: if you lose or forget it, your data cannot be recovered, so keep it in a password manager or another secure backup.Security
KnockKnockKnockKnock is a free, open-source Mac security tool that shows what is persistently installed on your computer. Malware usually installs itself so that it runs again each time the Mac restarts, and KnockKnock uncovers software that has done this, whatever its name. Press Start Scan and it goes through the known places where such software can hide, then lists what it found by category, with the number of items in each.Security
ExifCleanerExifCleaner removes hidden metadata from images, media files and PDFs, such as the GPS location, camera details and dates that photos often carry. Drag and drop files or whole folders onto the window and it cleans them in a fast batch, using ExifTool behind the scenes. You can expand any processed file to see exactly what was removed, before and after.Security
VeraCryptVeraCrypt is free disk encryption software. It creates an encrypted volume, a file that works like a separate disk once you mount it with your password, and it can also encrypt a whole partition or external drive. Everything you put inside is encrypted automatically, and without the password the data cannot be read. VeraCrypt supports hidden volumes for plausible deniability, several strong encryption algorithms, keyfiles and smart cards, and its volumes can be opened on Windows and Linux too.Security
